If The Shoe Fits...

25/05/2007

Memorandum for Record: Military Spending Concerns

FROM: SPC Freeman, Milo; US Army, Iraq

TO: Senate Democrats, Republicans, and "American Idol" viewers across the nation.

1. You. Punk. Ass. Pantywaisted. Bitches.

2. You had a chance. You could have put your money where your mouth is--could have put some ass behind all those claims of "favoring an end to war."

3. And you fucking choked.

4. Let me explain something to you. Your children; your spouses; your lovers and friends and parents and CONSTITUENTS are hostages to this war. They're dying for a conflict with no concrete objective. They're losing marriages and childhood moments to a neverending cycle of extended tours. Their equipment, their morale, is stretched thin. And some of them--those of us smart enough not to buy the fucking hype--were counting on you to find your fucking testicles and put an end to this shit. We were counting on you to save us from ourselves; to find a way to put us to use serving our country in ways perhaps more effective in rebuilding our nation.

5. And you. Fucking. Choked.

6. I haven't gotten a current edition of the paper in months. It's always a day behind. I don't get to check the news--I barely have the time. So what am I to think when I read yesterday's Stars and Stripes, and hear about this shit? Is that supposed to tell me that my leaders, my countrymen give a flying FUCK about what happens to me or my wife? Is that the message I'm supposed to glean from this STUNNING lack of cojones? Because I gotta tell you, America, I'm not seeing it.

7. I'm so sick of hearing this wretched war talked about in terms of Victory or Defeat. "If we leave, the terrorists will win."

8. Fuck that.

9. Today it's Terrorists. Yesterday it was Blacks/Gays/Jews/Hippies. Before that it was Communists. Before that, it was Uppity Colonials with Secondhand Muskets and Pitchforks. It's always fucking something with you people, isn't it?

10.You just need your little wars to feel good about yourselves, don't you? Something to make you feel threatened; something to make you feel heroic; ANYTHING to make you feel like your pathetic lives are more than just you against the Big, Black, Scary Infinite. Well, obviously, it's working.

11. You don't magically "win" an occupation. It's an inevitable bleed-out. We're stuck in a situation beyond our powers to fix, in a country that WE voted to destroy, whose history and people we neither understand nor care to try. We bought the hype, hook-line-and-sinker.

12. Fuck Victory. Fuck Defeat. Any way you slice it, This. War. Is. Wrong.

13.You don't keep trying to win the game after it turns out you bribed the refs. You fire the coaches and/or players responsible, and you hand over the Title. You take your lumps like a fucking man and try to rebuild. Accept it.

13. Hope you're happy, America. Clutch your pearls about all those dirty liberals who voted against the proposal ("They didn't Support The Troops!"). Whine about all the evil elderly schoolteachers and librarians protesting the war on a Saturday morning outside your courthouse.

14. But when your son or daughter or spouse or first lay comes home airfreight, mangled into a closed-casket service by a daisy-chain of 155s buried under Route Tampa, remember this:

15. It won't be the dirty liberals who put them there.

16. Hoo-ah.

Wow, this post is great. This blog is great. Thank you, Milo, for using your gift despite living in hell.

Frankly, it's a tough time to be a real liberal or real conservative, neither group of politicians operating under these labels is standing up to any of those ideals. It's a sad situation.

There's just no one willing to stand up for their constituents, it seems. If they did, you guys would be on your way home or fighting somewhere it might do some good.

I've read your whole blog over the past few days and it has really captured me. I don't personally know anyone over there, but it doesn't feel that ways anymore. Thank you for letting us in on some of the truth. :)

Thanks for writing this. Just so you know, there are millions of Americans throughly disgusted with the cowardice of what is laughingly referred to as the "leadership" of the Democratic Party.

Watched that bitch Anne Coulter on Fox last night, man that woman ought to just go over there and see for herself, not like the politicans who had a hundred guns following them around and saying it was "safe"........excellent post and you have the balls to say what others won't!!!!! Even though I didn't expect much from this bill, I've been crying for days at the sheer stupidity of the Dems for selling you out, and for setting up the people who supported them for such a big fall. The inept way they went about this PR wise has stripped me of all hope that there is anything that can be done but to watch more people die, get maimed, be at the mercy of stronger, less principled assholes only out to make a buck. I'm sorry for being such a downer, and letting this huge disappointment drain my will - I'm just so depressed I can't think anymore...

I understand your frustration Milo. I too want to see this occupation ended. You and the rest of our soldiers and Marines should never have been sent there in the first place. Yes, Congress failed to put into action an end to our involvement in Iraq with this funding bill. But bear in mind, the debate that took place would never have even happened prior to November of 2006. We've had 4 years of 'no questions asked'. Well, the questions are finally being asked. I don't expect this to be any consolation to you, one whose life is on the line every day, but it's a fact. And it's surely a light, however faint, in the black abyss.

Be well.

I was watching Bill Maher the other night, and Ben Fucking Affleck said it "best" or at least, decently enough, and I might be slightly paraphrasing here. "The biggest thing the Democrats are afraid of being called is pussies."

Anyway, as a result of this bullshit, the Democrats are now seen as a bunch of pussies by pretty much everyone.

Most of us common folk care about the many deaths that our military is suffering everyday in Iraq. The problem is no one has the balls to challenge Bush or Cheney. The powers that be in the Democrat party caved in completely. I think the writing is on the wall though. We are never leaving Iraq. With us building our largest embassy in the world there, it's clear we are there for the long haul. I don't know who made this decision, but, that's whats up. The only way we are going to wake up more common folk about the bs occurring in Iraq is to start talking bout instituting the draft. That will wake the sleeping or the I Don't Give a Damn crew.

It's so very sad to see our great nation drowning in death, deception and full blown hypocrisy, but that's what we got. The mobsters in charge are destroying our nation and the planet in order to "save" both. The world stands by as we self-destruct, drowned by oceans of self-delusion. America is running out of excuses. We either lock up the monsters who created all this madness or we drown. We better come up with an answer soon. The clock is running out fast. Time knows no mercy.

Thank you for your words. I, too, have been soooo depressed by the Dem Cave-In but, but, but, it brings home to me the fact that this whole situation is much worse than we can acknowledge. The Dems simply do not have the numbers, i.e. the power, to do anything more than they are doing. We are, after all, dealing not with Republican politicians, we are dealing with criminals. The Repubs must be chortling all the way to Iran over the liberal suicide circle - blaming the Dem leaders instead of recognizing that we simply do not have the power yet. Blame the Repubs!!!! We're in real trouble here folks and we need to re-group quickly.

Milo, I have been protesting this war before it began and your words tell me never to quit. The antiwar movement has been stung badly by the democrats, and we now know it is up to we the people to get you guys home and to impeach the lying criminals that hold the highest offices in this country. Americans do love the troops, but most of them have been drinking Bush koolaid for too long and they need to dry out! I won't stop until all of you are home. God forbid George W. you sat there and wrote this and you did nothing but make the Army look like a bunch of uneducated morons. You are no soldier, i know you were taught in basic how to conduct yourself in a public setting and, this is a public setting.
if you did not want to do what the goverment tells you. then you should not have joined the armed forces!

Hoo-ah brother.

The one's calling you "dishonorable" are hypocrites. You did the opposite of what they said -- you made us look intelligent, principled enough to speak out in the face of possible reprisals and denigrations, brave enough to take their endless bullshit and say the right thing. Of course they insult you, that's all they're good for, and it's all you can expect from these trained hamsters. You were right about them, and they know it, they feel so shamed by these words that all they have in reply are insulting one-liners and ad hominem attacks. Cowards. The honorable can hear your integrity despite the cackling of these hyenas, brother. May these vultures wallow in their shame; the voices of cowards that attack us just fade into the background. Don't waste your breath guys, the truth is bulletproof. You can't shout down the vets, no matter how loud you get.

"In times of change, the Patriot is a scarce man; brave, hated and scorned. When his cause succeeds, however, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a Patriot."

~Mark Twain

"The dangerous patriot...drifts into chauvinism and exhibits blind enthusiasm for military actions...Chauvinism is a proud and bellicose form of patriotism...which equates the national honor with military victory."

Having read through the many postings, now you know how it felt for Viet Nam vets. The frustrations of having one hand tied behind your back going in. The frustration of NOT being to able to go in and bomb the industrial infra structure because LBJ and McNamara wanted to teach "Our Little Yellow Brothers A Lesson". Guess who got taught the lesson that we are NOW REPEATING. The politicos never learn. Self gratification for See What I did.

Don't mind the conservative dweebs. Notice that they did not leave a cogent rebuttal to what you wrote - they simply attacked your integrity and questioned your honor. They can't understand there can be a true difference of opinion and the military duty is not to the government, but to the people and to the Constitution.

There's enough info on your blog to ID you. Once it's done I'll forward it to your PAO and let your chain of command take care of this.

For the rest of you, if you are in or came out of the military as a liberal, it's a shame you didn't learn anything while enlisted. It would have been better had you died in uniform, because at least people could have looked back at your life and knew it served some useful purpose.

Col. Smith underscores all that is wrong with the por-war contigent.

He wants to scare you and run to "mommy" and tell you to "stop" saying "bad" things. It's not important if those "bad things" are true or not, just don't say 'em in "PUBLIC"!!!

God forbid someone reads your blog and stops watching "Ugh-merican I-dull" and actually starts to utilizing their grey matter.

Ya see, we can't have anyone back in Ugh-merica thinkin' this is a big 'ole waste of time or a farce, not to mention the horrible realization of actual death and mental/physical demolition of our service men and women/families.

Yes Col. Smith, do go running to the PAO and FOR GOD SAKES stop this blogger at all costs!!! After all, he's not entitled to his own opinion in the New World Order.

I mourn those I love who have died in service. In WWI, WWII and Vietnam... I mourn those who died as a result of Vietnam (you know, suicide, ETOH related death, etc.) I mourn MOSTLY my FAMILY MEMBERS and LOVED ONES who have fallen during OIF and OEF. They died doing their very best... I CAN INDEED SUPPORT MY TROOPS WITHOUT SUPPORTING THIS WAR. And you, sir, are delusional if you think you can stop the TRUTH.

You can't stop Al Qaida. You can't stop Terrorism. How in the hell do you think you can stop the TRUTH?

Well, Milo, yours was an eloquent statement of the obvious.

And it was suitably adorned by Mark Edward Noonan, 19th century southern gentleman soldier, who would never say a vulgar word - and who no doubt would never flog the niggers himself, as his 21st century successors have done in Abu Ghraib, Guantanamo, the backs of innumerable Humvees, and other such places. I wish we could please Mark Edward Noonan by removing from our armed forces, and from Iraq, all who use such vulgarity - as the woman sergeant said, "My exit strategy is my ass on a plane to St. Louis" - for then there would be none left.

A reading recommendation: John Steinbeck's "The Moon Is Down," published in 1942. You can pick it up used on the internet, or read it online on my website at http://home.earthlink.net/~attwoods/moonintro.html

Milo,

Brave words from a brave man. Well done! Others would silence your voice because they fear you.

The sissy brass, the colonels and generals who've never heard a shot fired in anger and fight this war on their asses in air-conditioned splendour fear honest soldiers like you more than they do the phony "al qaeda." They know you and your brothers and sisters have the power to end this war and that, in due time, you will.

We know you're being deprived of news over there, so heres's a little factoid to let you know how terrified the brass truly is: Monday morning a hearing will be convened for the purpose of stripping a Marine of his honorable discharge because he went to a protest rally and wore some bdu's.

They're terrified, these Sissy Generals, and you and others like you, Milo, are the ones that scare them most, because they fear honest patriotism. They fear the ones who know the Emperor has no clothes.

Speak on, Patriot. Speak loud and clear!

I agree with just about everything that you said, Milo, but you have no business saying it. You chose to go. You signed an agreement knowing that it means ``I'm willing to kill anyone my government tells me to'', and now your bitching about it. What a whiner....

You sold your soul when you signed up.

Really, you should stfu, let those who have any room at all to talk to beat up on the losers that refunded this war, hope that we get your sorry ass home, and then try never to do something so stupid as to VOLUNTEER TO DO EVIL as you did.

Wow, what powerful words! I am giving you a standing ovation on behalf of the families of our fallen. Congress could have ended this god forsaken war and instead they folded. They could have prevented more American deaths and they didn't have the guts. So more Americans die, we have more families destroyed and it will not end until SOMEONE grows some gonads and does what is right. Our "commander in chief" doesn't believe America does not support his war. He thinks we only want a new direction... We do, we want to cut our losses and let Iraq take care of itself. Our president is a freakin expert because he reads. I read too and I vote and I will remember on election day who did not have the guts to represent their constituents and to vote to end this freakin' war.

I can't believe Col. Smith even said that, it made my blood boil!!!! I used to consider myself a Democrat now I'm a proud liberal. I also sit on the board of MFSO, miliary families speak out. (mfso.org) So here I am speaking out, "Col., go to hell!" My husband is in Baghdad, I support him but not this war. Bring our troops home, this is bullshit. I'm glad Freeman had the balls to speak out, more military families should! More Americans should! I'm so sick of this administration running everything like a damned dictatorship. Bush is a dictator, let's impeach!!!!!

7:53 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I am a supporter of the war, but you're on the money on this one, for the most part. If the democrats were genuine about ending the war and "bringing the troops home" they would have cut funding for the war. It's a decision I would disagree with, but one I could respect. Instead, they have chosen the death of a thousand cuts-screwing the troops at every chance they get.

If the democrats don't have the courage to end a war they are all against, how will they ever have the courage to take decisive action that will make our nation safer?
