On Our Anniversary

There are not enough words. Nor will there ever be.

When I mourned for another, you held me and dried my tears. When I had to place to live, you fed me and clothed me as best you could. When the myriad cruelties of the world have seemed just too much to bear, you were there, a soft place to fall. Through myriad glories and hardships, you have stood fast, a mighty oak amid the saplings.

You are the most steadfast and loving friend I could have ever asked for. You are beautiful, and you are good, and I love you more than life itself.

"You have given me a gift,
Such as I had never dreamed of finding
In this life."

--Franz Kafka

I am but a man, but with you I am more. Together, there are none brighter, more brash, more beautiful. We rule the world, and yet we spurn it for each other. Together, wherever we go, we are more than husband and wife.

We are gods.

I remember that day two years ago, standing next to the two of you and seeing something that I've seen everytime since, and I imagine I will continue seeing it ten, twenty, and fifty years from now.

Happy Anniversary to both of you, may these times of trial and hardship only strengthen the bond that you share.

Milo, I was struck by the comment in your latest Sandbox post that you don't have proper socks. What type would work? Do others share this problem? Perhaps you can check some backpacking sites such as Campmor.com for types available. Then let us know how to get them to you and others. This seems trite, but maybe better than a magnet on the car.

Freeman,

Just a couple of words from a SSG (with a degree) whos's BTDT a bit.

Been reading some of your posts and I can relate to much of what you talk about, especially the anti-intellectual sentiment in the military.

If you are smart (as smart as you say you are), you've got the MGIB Ch 30 as well as some Student Loan repayment and other bennies stacked up.

Pull the plug, go to school, sit the wife down and build a budget and a 2, 5 and 10 year plan (put off having kids for certain for a while).

Both of you get your asses into school (if you do not have a degree already) and get on with your lives.

If you hate the civilian life after college rejoin the military.

Just suggesting to you what I'd suggest to my own troops.

Best of luck and keep on writing.

About your "detractors", f**k 'em if they can't handle it.

You've more than earned your right to speak your mind my friend.

What a wonderful Anniversary thought! You and the Army should have many happy years together. One day they might even let you see your wife.

What a putz.

Happy Anniversary (as it can be)... the way I have done this is to know that a year or two... or sometimes three is nothing to the rest of our lives together.

That is finally coming to fruition for us.

There is love.

You are the most courageous and loyal marriage... next to mine.

*wink*

Love.

Happy (belated) anniversary Anne and Milo.

I only "know" you through this site, yet, by the way you communicate and express your feelings, your love for each other is so true and magical. Whatever you two decide to do with your lifes, I'm certain it will be a rewarding and wonderful journey together.

Take good care, and stay safe!

And when back in Germany, enjoy some awesome "Semmelknoedel", all the fixings, and a good beer or wine.
